The U.S., U.K., and the French want Iran's nuke site opened!

According to the Associated Press -

PITTSBURGH – Armed with the disclosure of a secret Iranian nuclear facility, President Barack Obama and the leaders of France and Britain demanded Friday that Tehran fully disclose its nuclear ambitions "or be held accountable" to an impatient world community.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Iran has until December to comply or face new sanctions. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown accused Iran of "serial deception."

Said Obama: "Iran is breaking rules that all nations must follow."

Their dramatic joint statement opened the G-20 economic summit.

Obama urged the International Atomic Energy Agency to investigate the site.

Iran has kept the facility, 100 miles southwest of Tehran, hidden from weapons inspectors until a letter it sent to the IAEA on Monday, publicly disclosed for the first time Friday....read the full story here, and then let us know your thoughts!

As Seen On CNN - How To Bargain Hunt for Health Care

(CNN) -- When Bridget and Scott Bear were expecting their first child, they wanted to know what it would cost so they could set aside enough money in their health savings account.

The Omaha, Nebraska, couple went to Alegent Health's Web site and found the My Cost function, entered their insurance information and learned the hospital charges would be around $2,500, Bridget Bear said.

When Bridget Bear gave birth to their son, Lawson, on April 2 at Lakeside Hospital -- a healthy 8-pound, 8-ounce baby -- the couple were ready for the bill, she said.

Alegent is one of a growing number of hospitals, Web sites, even states, helping patients comparison shop on the Internet before undergoing a medical procedure or test.

Hospitals say they're responding to a growing demand from patients who are paying for more of their health care out of pocket, thanks to rising deductibles and the advent of high deductible, consumer-driven plans like the Bears have.
In the early 2000s, Bellin Health System in Green Bay, Wisconsin, began receiving more calls from patients wanting to know what a particular procedure would cost, said Jeff Hampton, director of revenue cycle management.
"As sad as it sounds, we had to say we didn't know," Hampton said.....read the rest of this story by visiting CNN

Will Speech Recognition Affect My Future As A Medical Transcriptionist?

MedCentricity Corporation - With technology ever changing, Medical Transcriptionists are beginning to wonder what the future holds now that speech recognition solutions are becoming increasingly popular. Will this new technology deem their skills useless?

Although speech recognition can seemingly eliminate the need to transcribe dictated reports/medical records, it's near impossible for this technology to completely eliminate the need for medical transcriptionists. Speech recognition technology cannot discern the nuances of human error. Even at its best, machine translated text contains errors, which need correction by professionals with strong language skills and a firm understanding of the health record. Leading technology advancements, such as speech recognition, often times compensate for the shortage of skilled transcriptionists. Each year, the demand for skilled medical transcriptionists grows, but the supply does not.

Off-Site Medical Transcription Companies Proving Valuable To The In-House Transcription Departments

MedCentricity Corporation - In the medical community, outsourcing dictated medical record data for transcription to remote transcription companies is increasingly common these days; however, there are still many medical facilities that prefer an in-house medical transcription department. While there is no right or wrong approach, question looms whether outsourcing offers added benefits compared to that of an in-house medical transcription department.

Each facility bases the decision on their specific needs and/or comfort level. After all, we're talking about ever important and supreme confidential health information of many individuals. But when an in-house transcription department is short-staffed and/or backlogged, exactly how long does a patient have to wait for new medical information to update their medical profile, transfer to another physician or facility, or all of the above? For medical facilities that chose to operate using an in-house medical transcription department, consideration should be given for planned, or unplanned, shortages of their medical transcriptionists. Whether the shortage is due to vacations, holidays, or overflow, it's essential to have a reliable resource for backup, so patients are ensured timely updated medical profiles for accurate continuity of care, speedy medical record transfer, and more.

Reputable medical transcription companies house large networks of highly skilled and professional medical transcriptionists and editors to fulfill heavy workflow volume. These companies specialize in timely turnaround, flawless accuracy and security, as well as accessibility, which can be critically important in the most extreme circumstances. Additionally, many medical facilities find outsourcing to be much more cost-effective; eliminating overhead and freeing up valuable office space.

In short, off-site medical transcription companies are often overlooked as being a valuable resource to the in-house transcription department in need of temporary and/or part-time workflow relief. With the importance of this valuable patient information, can a facility afford not to have a back up plan for when the unexpected happens in their medical transcription department?
